The road to Rostoč

This one was quite the adventure, it first started the day before. We were just finishing the extinction rebellion demonstration and needed to pack the tent away in the evening. There were several missions to do before we could pack our bags away and go to Rostoč. During the demonstration I choked on a piece of orange and needed to go to hospital to get it out, which added another layer to this complicated mission. While in hospital they needed to put me to sleep so I could get the orange out, then when I woke up I had no battery on my phone but the whole crew was waiting for me in the van. It was towards the middle of the night and now we had the mission to get some food and collect my bags. Now the whole crew has accompanied me to collect my bags at 1:30am in the morning. After much discussion we thought it wasn’t best to drive to Prague in the same night. So the whole crew slept at mine… wise decision.

Finally after all this we make our way to Prague and to the festival. This was the first circus festival we as a group were going to and didn’t know what to expect. When we arrived we needed to set up the circus tent in the sand. This presented its own challenges, but as a group we managed to figure it out and construct the tent. Now the festival begins!!

During the festival the tent was a place of music, workshops and rest. Providing a space where people could come and feel comfortable. During the festival we looked after the space, making sure things like the atmosphere, cleanliness and activities were all taken care of.

Then the festival, I think I can speak for all when I say “what a festival!”. There were so many workshops done by amazing artists as well and performances that changed your perspective of flow arts. This festival was made for this project.

After the festival while traveling back half the team went to Prague and the others took a van back to Berlin. During the van journey it came to light afterwards that a person had contracted covid, so this meant that everyone in the van had to self isolate. This meant only part of the team that went to Prague was able to work. We had 3 people who didn’t need to be self-isolated, and we had a festival in 2 days.

Circus Space Pirates Collective (www.circusspacepirates.org) – We are a group of passionate performers, educators and activists, who have all met through the berlin-based social circus actions. What started out as a small idea, has now turned into something greater, which we wish to share and invite to grow together with everyone who feels the calling to join this journey. Since March 2022 we are also supporting Ukrainian people with circus pedagogical offers at the Ukrainian border: www.mobilecircusforpeace.org
